About us
Having spent many years devising, producing and commissioning entertainment and comedy projects for TV, Iain and Joe started Square Pears in 2024 to service a growing need in the media industry for funny content.
Comedy Sells, not just on TV but wherever people are getting their content. So Square Pears was set up to bring our extensive knowledge of idea creation and comedy production to different sized screens.
Our team comprises Iain and Joe but also a hugely experienced core team of videographers, producers and content creators with experience across all platforms.
Our production management expertise comes courtesy of our partnership with The Nest. They are our best in class production partners allowing us to stay small and nimble while they make sure all the I's are dotted and the T's crossed. Together we make sure everything is done properly and everyone gets paid on time.

What we do
We do most things and we usually do them to make people laugh. A long time in the game and an incredible contact list means we produce all types of funny content. We bring big name comedy talent (and some small ones too) to your project.
We make TV.
We've been doing it for a long time. We create new formats from scratch, develop them to your specifications and then produce, edit and deliver them for you.
We make content.
Imagine this, you've got a project you want to get off the ground but you're not quite sure what it's going to look like or maybe how to engage your audience? That's where we come in. We're not going to paraphrase the opening monologue to the A-Team but it is quite apt (not the maximum security security stockade bit).
We have a huge range of experience making engaging funny content for all types of clients.
We make podcasts
More recently we've been producing podcasts on a wide variety of topics.
Joe McVey
Having started labelling tapes (remember tapes?) on Big Brother, Joe has worked across almost all aspects and genres of TV production. From creating and developing hundreds of hours of formatted shows, he's also worked in producing, editing, commissioning and tea production.
His experience encompasses quiz shows, game shows, scripted comedy, panel shows, travelogue and even executive producing some MMA fights.
He will not be taking any questions about MMA at this time.
Iain Coyle
Iain is the former Head of Comedy Entertainment at UKTV, previous to that he has numerous comedy and entertainment credits and development, for all major UK broadcasters. He is highly experienced in production, format creation, writing and commissioning. Big fan of halloumi and electric blankets.
